Enlarged View of Rope and Pipe

Diagram by D. Keeth.
Plastic pipe is the conduit through which the water travels up to the surface on a rope pump. There are two holes in the concrete cap located on either side of the rope pump. Two plastic pipes that extend the depth of the well are fed through the holes. One of the pipes is fitted with an elbow joint just above the top of the concrete cap. The joint allows a short piece of pipe to extend perpendicular to the main pipe. This piece of pipe allows the pumped water to flow outward where it can be collected by the user.
