Recreation

by Mark Schwartz, Tsumkwe Region, Namibia

Since we live in the outskirts of the Kalahari Desert, water is not plentiful enough for recreational uses. Sometimes, when the dam is full, children will swim behind the dam. But this is discouraged.

After the rainy season, children play in the oshanas. It is very cute to see piles of books and school uniforms next to the oshana when the children dive in after school.

In the early mornings, my homestead kids can be seen standing in knee-high water in the yard as they try to catch huge frogs that appear during the rainy season.

The children play in the oshanas. They don't know how to swim, but play in its shallow water when it's hot outside.
