Return to Water in Africa

Conservation

by Pamela Parsa, Mbomo, Gabon

I've seen conservation occur only during the rainy season. Families place large pots and buckets under handmade gutters (made by bending metal sheeting and hanging it below the roof edge) in order to catch rainwater. Occasionally, someone will have an old oil barrel, which is used for the same purpose. Because of the two pumps in this village, there is not an apparent need to conserve water.
